Carers Conference

6th March 2012

Dorking Halls, Dorking

10.00am – 3.30pm

The recent ADASS report “Carers and Safeguarding Adults – Working Together to Improve Outcomes” recognises the diverse needs and circumstances of carers and explores how to improve practice in relation to Safeguarding Adults. In addition, at the end of last year, a range of new initiatives emerged from the Department of Health addressing the health and wellbeing of carers.

This conference will examine some of the key messages to emerge from these reports in relation to action being taken within Surrey. It will look at:

·     Carers who are at risk of harm and ill health

·     How carers can keep themselves safe

·     Balancing Safeguarding and Risk Management in practice

·     Keeping carers healthy and well

·     Whole family approaches to break the barriers to getting help

Michael Hake, Association of Directors of Adult Social Care

Sarah Mitchell, Strategic Director, Adult Social Care, Surrey County Council

Jane Thornton, Chief Executive, Action for Carers

Professor Luke Clements on Carers Rights,

Gabby Alford, Associate Director, NHS Surrey
